Only surgeons are qualified to do surgery. Non-surgically trained doctor such as optometrist should not be allowed to perform surgery. Amount many other reasons, if the laser surgery goes wrong, optometrist will not have the abilities to manage the complications, therefore this is not safe for the patients.
