My primary concern when I visit a medical clinic is that everything they do is based on science. Yet, when I review the regulations proposed for abortion clinics I do not see the science behind the proposal. I have not heard of a large number of women being harmed in the existing clinics. I have not heard of a large number of women dying as a result of inadequate care or services. Even if that were the case, these regulations appear to be onerous and directed towards a sub-group of people based upon religious morality and not scientific facts.
Despite the "lack of a problem", these regulations are presented as a solution. That solution should be an improvement in the quality of service. I'm not sure how forcing the few remaining clinics that provide abortion services to underserved communities of women to close will be an improvement of service. Rather, this appears on its face to be a politically motivated attempt to close the clinics despite the great harm that could happen to women should they not be allowed to exercise their freedom over their own bodies.
If there is a problem, identify the problem and then design a solution (a set of regulations) that will move existing services towards resolving that problem.
Respectfully,
Dan Bailey
