RGGI

I am appalled that Virginia might withdraw from the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative. Surely we cannot be blind to the good that continues to come from our membership in this effort. With increasing frequency, the weather here and around the world is demonstrating the urgent need for all of us to reduce our carbon footprint, yet we are considering cutting our ties to one of the groups that is most helpful in our efforts. This is nonsense -- unless we are seeking to set ourselves up for failure. Not only do we need the encouragement, ideas and resources made available to us through our RGGI partnership, but we also need the mutual accountability of this group. Without that, it is increasingly likely that we will fail to meet our goals. As a parent is two and grandparent of five, I find that entirely unacceptable. Not only must we meet our goals, but we must meet them long before the target date of 2050. Yes, it will be difficult. But it will be nothing compared to the difficulties of living in the.world.we leave our grandchildren if we fail to do what is right now. I call on you to make the hard but right choice to remain engaged in the RGGI. For the sake of those who follow us, we must succeed.
