Licensure of abortion clinics

Two years ago my then18 year old daughter had an invasive medical procedure done under general anesthesia in a doctor's office, attended by the doctor and one other licensed medical professional. She was given nitrous oxide followed by an IV drip. During the approximate one hour she was under the anesthesia, four incisions were made and extraction instruments were used. One small bone had to be broken to facilitate the extraction. Sutures were required to close. After surgery she was given prescriptions for a antibiotic, and a class 3 narcotic for pain.

I have just described the removal of my daughter's wisdom teeth.

Most 1st term abortions done in a clinic setting do not involve sedation. No surgical incisions are made. Rarely are any pain killers prescribed. The use of preventative oral antibiotics is no longer standard as risk of infection is rare.

The clinic regulations proposed will not make abortion 'safer' for women. It will make it more expensive and less available. More women - esp. those teenagers everyone is so worried about getting abortions without their parents' permission, will turn to dangerous and/or ineffective home 'remedies' for pregnancy termination.

Don't be stupid about women's lives.
