re: tourism

This will make tourism in our state parks safer and more enjoyable.  The "dangers" in our state forests are not our lawfully carrying law abiding citizens.  The dangers are violent criminals (murderers, robbers, rapists, crack head thugs, terrorists) who target victims who cannot defend themselves and YES, they visit our state forests too.  In fact these violent criminals are EVERYWHERE you are.  Gun free zones are particularly attractive to violent criminals.  Especially wilderness areas where help for their victim may be many miles away, there are no witnesses in the wild, and their crime may go undetected for a long period of time.  In a gun free zone violent criminals know law abiding citizens will have no means to defend themselves, therefore there is no risk to the violent criminal in these areas.  That means these are the areas that are targeted by violent criminals.  Gun free zones are criminal friendly zones, so if you are equating gun free with safe and free of danger you are sadly uninformed.  You are also a perfect victim for a violent criminal.  Criminals love unarmed victims.  I haven't even mentioned the natural dangers that are in forest areas which I'm sure you are aware of such as bears, coyotes, and poisonous snakes just to name a few.  Imagine you're lost in the woods, injured, unable to move or travel, night encroaches and a pack of hungry coyotes happens by.  Well, you're going to need more than a plastic whistle to save your life.  Criminals have also been known to hide in wilderness areas to avoid capture by police.  Criminals even hide meth labs and marijauna fields in wilderness areas to avoid detection by police and you had better hope you don't wander into one of those areas without a way to protect yourself and your family.  Our state forests are wonderful and amazing places, but please be smart, don't take chances.  Protect yourself and those you love.  Please think about it.  Thank you.
