Support cautiously Model Policies Concerning Instructional Materials with Sexually Explicit Content
 

There is a great need to protect children from sexually explicit content. The concern I have is that this model excludes library material and standardized tests as educational material.  It looks like that would mean libraries and standardized tests are allowed to provide sexually explicit content to children.  This should not be!  There should be no reason to include sexually explicit material in children's libraries or on standardized tests.  If that material is there, it should be removed.  

Sexuality needs to take it's proper place in society.  It looks like children are being targeted by the pornography industry through our schools to create people addicted to sexually explicit material so they can line their pockets and fund their industry.  We will never stop sex trafficking by whetting the appetites of children on highly addictive pornography. 

There is a strong repetition or rhetoric declaring protecting children from sexually explicit content and including parents in their child's life when they are bringing up topics related to their own sexuality will cause suicide.  When school employees speak so strongly to keep parents out of the most sensitive areas of their child's upbringing, it makes them look like predators and groomers. What do these people desire to do to children that they so desperately want to keep from their parents?

Telling children in puberty that feelings of negatively about their body mean they are some label of sexual gendering is abusive.  All children in puberty experience strong emotions as they go through puberty because the chemicals in their body are adjusting.  This is new to the child and causes unsettling thoughts.  These thoughts can and should be addressed in gentle valuing ways rather than sexually labelling the child to promote an agenda.

Parents are the experts in their own children.  They have more experience with their own child than any professional educator may have.  They are the people who are in the relationship for the long haul.  Teachers will come and go.  Some will be great and some will not. Some parents are great and some are not, but to accuse all parents of not being capable of handling sensitive topics and making policies as if all parents want to hurt their children is wrong.  Schools should emphasize to both students and parents that the parent/child relationship is important and lasts a lifetime.  Schools should do everything they can to support and encourage healthy strong family relationships.

It takes a healthy village to raise healthy children.  If the village is toxic and hateful, it is damaging to children.  Teaching children that if people disagree with you, that means they hate you is unhealthy and is likely to cause them problems with relationships.  Healthy disagreement is important in any society. Healthy dialogue is important.  Educators and parents need to both speak openly, honestly and candidly to solve this important issue.

The things I've pointed out have come up in school board meetings I've attended this year. Thank you for your consideration.
