Support our students

Hello, I am a school librarian in Chesterfield and see first-hand how affirming a book that represents a student can be. When students see themselves in literature, they see that they are valued. Other students who may not be off the same race, gender, socioeconomic status, etc. learn empathy by broadening their perspectives. Limiting the books our studens can read limits their affirmations and ability to learn. It also decreases their motivation to read, which in turn impacts ALL aspects of their education.

I see the positive power of books daily and urge you to oppose SB656. Our students deserve to receive a full and strong education.
