Guidance Document Change: In 2021, the Virginia General Assembly passed House Bill 1904 and Senate Bill 1196, and was signed into law by Governor Northam. The law establishes new requirements to support culturally competent educators in the Commonwealth. The Guidance on Cultural Competency Training for Teachers and Other Licensed School Board Employees in Virginia Public Schools was developed for the Board to fulfill the statutory mandate to provide guidance on the minimum standards for the local training requirement.

Cultural Competecy Training for teachers/staff

I am opposed to Cultural Competency training and CRT for our schools.  Please consider the decline in basic classroom instruction and the burden that is already on our teachers in the classroom.  Certainly teachers need to be aware of the differences  among their students, but to force teachers to pass a competency test on those differences in absurd.  America used to be a melting pot, but it has more recently become a boiling pot where differences are emphasized and the things we can come together on are ignored or negated causing a greater division among our people.
