Guidance Document Change: In 2021, the Virginia General Assembly passed House Bill 1904 and Senate Bill 1196, and was signed into law by Governor Northam. The law establishes new requirements to support culturally competent educators in the Commonwealth. The Guidance on Cultural Competency Training for Teachers and Other Licensed School Board Employees in Virginia Public Schools was developed for the Board to fulfill the statutory mandate to provide guidance on the minimum standards for the local training requirement.

Oppose CRT in the guise of Cultural Responsive training

CRT is a theory which claims that we are born into unconscious bias racism and oppression, it’s identity politics. Instead of honoring Martin Luther King’s maxim that we should judge people on the content of their character, not the color of their skin, CRT demands we look at everybody according to their external qualities, categorizing people by color is racist. CRT divides us, suppressing freedom of speech unless it agrees with the required narrative, mandating teachers take cultural responsive training to examine their Whiteness, White privilege, white supremacy and microaggression.  We should be encouraging a dialogue and giving teachers the tools to reach all children in a positive environment to succeed, to promote unity and base our educational instruction to their individual needs instead of dividing people into categories.

I submit to you that there is only one race, the Human race, we may come from different cultures but we embrace those differences in the melting pot we call America. It is insulting to suggest that minorities cannot succeed in America when millions are trying to immigrate here to do just that.

Maybe we need to rethink our public education system. We need parental choice! every child should be able to get a quality education regardless of their economic status or where they live.  Any parent that chooses to send their child to a private, religious, charter or pod school should get the $12,000 we spend per child on public education paid to the school of their choice to meet their childs needs and even home schools should be reimbursed for their materials. Stop the inequity School Choice Now!
