Guidance Document Change: In 2021, the Virginia General Assembly passed House Bill 1904 and Senate Bill 1196, and was signed into law by Governor Northam. The law establishes new requirements to support culturally competent educators in the Commonwealth. The Guidance on Cultural Competency Training for Teachers and Other Licensed School Board Employees in Virginia Public Schools was developed for the Board to fulfill the statutory mandate to provide guidance on the minimum standards for the local training requirement.

Another misguided policy

I'm not sure what is driving the adoption of this misguided policy. I see no need for it. Furthermore it states goals/objectives which are objectively wrong. For example it states as a micro competency "Establish a classroom and school culture in which all dimensions of diversity are respected and valued"? Really? Are we to respect nazism? Are we to respect communism? Diversity is a not an absolute value. Respect and love are. Let's not confuse the two and lets not teach respect for anti human philosophies.
