We are driving farther from our goal by instilling a sense of critical awareness in our children that will plague their minds with the differences between us.
I appreciate that highlighting differences is necessary at certain ages to make children know that our equality is in our humanity. I have always said that living in a melting pot here in Northern Virginia is a GREAT boon, and simple exposure to different skin tones, cultures, and traditions is such a gentle way to get over the natural hesitation we have as humans to anything we aren't accustomed to; but we are taking it MUCH too far.
Insofar as my research indicates, Critical Race Theory is incredibly damaging to our children. In creating self-consciousness in children that naturally would not exist without our fallen attempts to highlight it, we are creating a new generation of racists. We are shifting focus to defensiveness and superiority by trying to pit races against one another.
Those who advocate for CRT are not malicious. Those who oppose CRT are not racist. We both have the good of humanity in mind, but simply disagree how to achieve intelligent conversation and peace. I was certainly taught about slavery and oppression growing up in the 90's. I read "Uncle Tom's Cabin" and studied the Civil War, and fully recognized in a childlike way the evil that is oppression long before CRT. I am not against education - I am against this particular SPIN on history.
This approach is damaging and worth fighting against tooth and nail. I will NOT take part in tearing down my children's generation. NO CRT in our schools.
