Guidance Document Change: In 2021, the Virginia General Assembly passed House Bill 1904 and Senate Bill 1196, and was signed into law by Governor Northam. The law establishes new requirements to support culturally competent educators in the Commonwealth. The Guidance on Cultural Competency Training for Teachers and Other Licensed School Board Employees in Virginia Public Schools was developed for the Board to fulfill the statutory mandate to provide guidance on the minimum standards for the local training requirement.

Exact Opposite of Result Intended

This will yield the opposite results that you are hoping for.  We will lose good teachers and students will become activists. Teachers and students will become  more focused on race than education. The school is the wrong place for this.  Teachers will begin to abandon this profession. These guidelines take away from teachers becoming better educators. I was in the military and all of this kind of external non mission focused training detracted from my actual job and mission and is one of the things that drove me to leave the military.  Teachers was to teach the basics and fundamentals and this only makes that more difficult
