Guidance Document Change: In 2021, the Virginia General Assembly passed House Bill 1904 and Senate Bill 1196, and was signed into law by Governor Northam. The law establishes new requirements to support culturally competent educators in the Commonwealth. The Guidance on Cultural Competency Training for Teachers and Other Licensed School Board Employees in Virginia Public Schools was developed for the Board to fulfill the statutory mandate to provide guidance on the minimum standards for the local training requirement.

Stop creating problems with this cultural competency junk

It’s so absurd how absolutely racist these proposals are. To focus so blindly on outward appearances and the color of one’s skin to draw stereotypical conclusions on someone’s capabilities, understanding and worth is the deepest and most disgusting form of racism. No one wins in that world, no one. Let’s focus the lens on empowering all, holding all to a higher standard, and recognizing success looks different for each and everyone of us. Fixating on race only drives a wedge between us all.
