Guidance Document Change: In 2021, the Virginia General Assembly passed House Bill 1904 and Senate Bill 1196, and was signed into law by Governor Northam. The law establishes new requirements to support culturally competent educators in the Commonwealth. The Guidance on Cultural Competency Training for Teachers and Other Licensed School Board Employees in Virginia Public Schools was developed for the Board to fulfill the statutory mandate to provide guidance on the minimum standards for the local training requirement.

School-based Cultural guidance

General: Cultural guidance used in Virginia schools should be generalized at state level  to permit maximin tailoring at the local school level as approved by a school committee representing parents, education administration/teaching staff, and general community.  This will permit maximum local representation and influence on the final product  central control is inimical to Traditional democratic, diversification, and American values.  Local ideas, practical processes, and innovation is also facilitated    Dictatorial rules enshrined and formulated by academicians who have no knowledge of local needs should be specifically avoided.
