Imposing a blanket vaccine mandate across the entire state of Virginia is both unethical and violates the basic tenets of our country's laws and ideals. Forcing citizens of Virginia to receive any medical procedure is a violation of the government's authority and a gross overreach by government. Furthermore, the majority of the of the individuals in question are students below 18 years old. The risk of serious illness or complications from the COVID 19 virus are so small for this demographic that the benefit of vaccination for them is tremendously small. Additionally, no significant body of research has been gathered on this age demographic proving that the risks from vaccination are appropriately small. Without this information, and in the face of the slim to non-existent benefit of vaccinating this demographic, it is morally reprehensible to attempt to force them into receiving the vaccine. No child's education should be compromised because they are unwilling to receive the COVID 19 vaccine. Similarly, no teacher should be forced against their will to undergo a medical procedure they do not wish to receive. The Virginia school board is teaching our children the wrong things through the position they are taking regarding individual rights and freedoms.
