To eliminate the requirement for the name of a patient care team physician to appear on a prescription written by a physician assistant for a controlled substance in Schedules II - V.

In accordance with Virginia law, the petition has been filed with the Register of Regulations and will be published on November 11, 2019 and posted on the Virginia Regulatory Townhall at www.townhall.virginia.gov.  Comment on the petition will be requested until December 11, 2019 and may be posted on the Townhall or sent to the Board. Following receipt of all comments on the petition to amend regulations, the matter will be considered by the Advisory Board at its next meeting following the close of comment.

At its meeting on February 20, 2020, the Board considered the petition and the comments in support and opposition. The Board decided to take no action and confirmed that it was appropriate for the physician's to be included on a prescription for a Schedule II-V drug. Board members noted that the electronic medical record should be configured to comply with the law and that there are options available to allow for compliance.
