Summary This document is designed to provide assistance to school divisions and public school programs in Virginia regarding the writing of policies and procedures for physical restraint and seclusion of students in emergency situations. This initiative, though spearheaded by the SSEAC, is pertinent to the management of all children’s violent behavior in emergency situations in Virginia’s public schools. The guidelines are intended to provide helpful and easily accessible information for those divisions that have a desire or need to review their policies, strengthen or modify current policies, or adopt new ones for managing student behaviors. These guidelines are informational and are neither mandated nor required.
