Regulations Governing Adult High School Programs [8 VAC 20 ‑ 30]
Emergency Extension Request
(3745)
Action:
Update to comport with legislative changes made by HB 1061 and SB 489 (2012) (Adult HS/GA Diploma)
(6252)
Stage:
Emergency/NOIRA

On 4/3/2014 the board requested that this emergency stage be extended until 1/16/2015.

Reason for Extension:
The Board approved emergency regulations at its June 2012 Board meeting. The emergency regulations mirror the provisions of the Code and no public comments were received. The emergency regulation became effective in July 2013, after a lengthy executive review. Due to the Board’s meeting schedule and new staff in the office of adult education, the permanent regulations were approved by the Board November 21, 2013. The permanent regulations were immediately submitted to the Office of the Attorney General, where they have remained since. It will be impossible for the permanent regulations to move through the remainder of the APA process before the emergency regulations expire. If the emergency regulations expire before the permanent regulations are approved it will result in confusion for school divisions, families and educators regarding the status of the General Achievement Diploma and the requirements of the General Achievement Adult High School Diploma.

This emergency extension request was approved by the Governor's office on 6/25/2014.
