The proposed changes to the abortion laws are not in the best interest of Virginians. There should be stricter oversight, not less in these medical matters. Facilites and medical personel should be accountable to follow health and safety measures that protect the safety of those in their care. Reinstatement of former health and safety measures that were changed would be the first order of business. Inspections of abortion facilities yearly, verfication that ultrasounds are being performed at least 24 hours before an abortion and that all fetal body parts are removed from the patient are just a few of the concerns that should be addressed. Patients should be assured that their health is not endangered because of lax safety measures or inablitly of emergency personel to get to them in case of a procedure going wrong.
