I have been practicing dry needling for over 5 years and have had excellent outcomes with my patients and have had zero incidents of injury or harm. I have personally been treated by 3 different acupunturists, none of which practice dry needling, nor did they want to learn the technique. This intent and function of the needle is what separates the practices.
Dry needling is a direct treatment of the muscle to improve function and decrease pain. Combined with manual therapy and exercise, we are able to improve muscle re-education, neural input and physical performance with our patients. It would be detrimental the speed and recovery of our patients to deny them the right to trigger point dry needling by a licensed and trained physical therapist who intimately understands the function of the musculoskeletal system.
