proposed regulations on women's health clinics

Just over 20 years ago I found myself pregnant with no insurance.  About six month's before, I had a miscarriage so was worried about the pregnancy.  I called many ob/gyns listed in the phone book but each wanted $2,000 just to see me.  The Women's Health Clinic in Falls Church was the only place that had no problem with me not having insurance.  They gave me a complete exam and assured me that everything was alright and only charged for the one appointment.  They then gave me information on a county program where I could get the prenatal care that I needed without having to worry about insurance.  They were there to take care of my needs and the needs of any other woman that came to them.

Even though like all visitors, I had to pass shouting protesters to get inside, once inside  I was treated with kindness and respect.  Women's Health Clinics serve a need in our communities.  No other business in the Commonwealth of Virginia is forced to close by unnecessary regulations.  These are unfair and will cause undo hardships to Virgina women and the healthcare community that supports us.  Other regulations have "grandfather clauses" that allow existing business to continue.  Women's Health Clinics should not be treated differently than other businesses.
