I support an evidence-based approach to regulating medical facilities for the purposes of patient safety. Many of the propsed restrictions on Virginia abortion providers do nothing to enhance the level of care or safety being offered to women in these facilities. They do serve only to make exisiting facilities shut down, despite no evidence of mistreatment, high safety risk, or any other serious issues at these facilities. This in turn puts an undue burden on women, particularly those in parts of the state with less access to medical services, to exercise their constitutional right to have this procedure performed.
