Gifted education is a nonpareil and requires expertise in the field.
The state of Virginia has made steps to eliminate to this Orwellian misnomer of “No Child Left Behind" mandates by affirming that its most unique and gifted students fall within special circumstances and learning styles that must be supported and addressed. The strides that have been made in identifying, supporting, and funding the gifted population and their value to school districts through Virginia will be compromised if these new regulations are set in motion.
Gifted education is a nonpareil and requires expertise in the field. School boards typically lack the proficiency to justifiably evaluate gifted education programs. Having state approved plans assures that students throughout the commonwealth are equally and appropriately identified and served, thus elevating the authenticity and equality of gifted education in Virginia.
If the commonwealth fails to guard gifted funding, districts could reallocate funds to other curriculum and functions. Eliminating state funding policy will compromise gifted education programs in many localities throughout Virginia.
Urgently reject the proposed changes to gifted education in Virginia.
