Is the goal of this legislation to provide health care benefits for a significant other of a VA employee? If it is, then I prefer legislation that says so. A committed relationship (same-gender or not) is very different from a relationship such as a roommate, renter, non-dependent relative, etc. I believe a committed partner is a person that our legislators need to consider as a beneficiary of the VA employee's health care plan.
