Action:
To Amend Regulations Pertaining to Medication
Action 4109

General Information
Action Summary Chapter 180 is being amended to set uniform thresholds for a determined list of controlled therapeutic medications and provide for a point system to track medication violations in order to assist the Racing Commission in Virginia and other jurisdictions in determining whether additional penalties are appropriate for licensees with multiple violations of the medication rules. These amendments will make Virginia’s medication rules consistent with nine other states in the Mid-Atlantic region. Consistency of medication rules in the Mid-Atlantic region will benefit horsemen that race their horses in more than one jurisdiction in this region as they will only have to remember and follow one set of rules concerning the medication of race horses.
