Description of Proposed Guidance Document Changes
The changes to TANF guidance are the result of a need for clarifying language regarding certain parts of the TANF program and as a result of legislation passed during the 2022 Session of the Virginia General Assembly. Substantive changes to TANF guidance include a new exemption from participation in the Virginia Initiative for Education and Work (VIEW) program, as mandated by House Bill (HB) 484 and clarification regarding the eligibility of a parent or relative/caretaker when the only eligible child in the home receives an adoption assistance payment, the number of days that a child would need to be absent to be considered truant, the documentation required to prove relationship between adults and children when the applicants are refugees, and the required documentation when arranging the direct deposit of TANF funds.
