How a child feels about a situation is individual and based on that person’s experiences. We already work with children to express these feelings in healthy ways. It is wrong to tach a child to feel a certain way, and that a feeling they may have is right or wrong, and then have this be a part of some sort of graded measurement. To tell a child this is how they need to feel because of their race or culture disregarding, ultimately discrediting that individual’s experience, is wrong. To teach a child that they are limited by their group or race, and that it is right or wrong to view other groups a certain way is racist. SEL is not appropriate for schools.
