Finalizing rules when a (LRI) is the paid aide/attendant

The legislation SB488 has allowed me to continue providing essential care for my parent, ensuring that their needs are consistently met. The actions taken by the Virginia General Assembly have been crucial in maintaining the safety and effectiveness of my parent’s care. Modifying these provisions could result in caregivers who are not adequately trained in using specialized equipment, posing a risk of injury to my parent. My daughter, who is quadriplegic, relies on specialized equipment for daily living activities that I have been trained to operate. My extensive knowledge of this equipment ensures its safe and effective use, which prevents complications. Introducing a new caregiver unfamiliar with these devices could lead to misuse, resulting in injury or equipment failure. I need to continue as the primary caregiver to ensure the safety and quality of life of my parent. The current waiver draft might force us to rely on caregivers who lack the necessary expertise, potentially leading to harm. The safety of my daughter, as well as others in similar situations, is at risk.
