Restraints and Seclusion

T

The Endependence Center supports a ban on restraint and seclusion. Students should never be subjected to these harmful practices. Until restraint and seclusion is banned, strict policy must be put in place to limit their use and to ensure all instances are reported. If restraint and seclusion occurs in instances that were not the result of an emergency resulting in imminent risk of serious harm or injury, the school district where the restraint and seclusion occurred should receive immediate technical assistance from VDOE and the incident reported to the local school board for their action. We support the comments submitted by the Virginia Association of Centers for Independent Living.
