I, John Harrichand, Ph.D., LPC(VA), NCC, CCC would like to inform members of the VA legislature of my support for the Conversion Therapy Ban. As a mental health professional, I have witnessed the effects of Conversion Thearpy on the college students I worked with during my time in Virginia. Conversion Therapy leaves its victims in a state is confusion, and inflicts emotional pain that results in anger and sadness being turned inwards further harming the individual who experiences the effects of Conversion Therapy. I strongly believe that ban will provide the needed resources for members of the public who are unable to stand up for their rights and provide them the support to live authentically. I also believe that the ban will result in bringing mental health professionals who practice this harmful version of "therapy" to justice.
