Comments on Proposed Regulations

The Robert E. Lee Monument is located in the Fan district of Richmond, Virginia.  The Fan District Association (“FDA”) was organized in 1968 with one of its goals being to promote the health, welfare, happiness and civic, cultural, educational and recreational betterment of the Fan District.

Many Fan residents use the Robert E. Lee Monument property for everyday recreational purposes.  For this reason, the FDA discourages any rules that would limit or restrict how Fan residents use this property.  The following are recommended changes to the proposed regulations that are offered to promote Fan residents’ continued use and enjoyment of the property:

1) allow pets per the regular city rules (leashed, have to clean-up after them, and they can't destroy property or be a nuisance)

2) allow people to sit on the steps of the statue

3) move the cut-off time to 9 or 10pm instead of dusk

4) allow food and beverages so people can picnic

5) increase number that triggers a permit to 25
