If this proposal is passed it will only open doors for potential unethical advertisement and treatment.  We have pledged to provide the highest standard of care to our patients, and this will be counter productive.  I do not see any logical reasons as to why we would allow providers who have not received standardized training as a specialist to proclaim as such.  No other health care professions would permit such action, and dentistry should not be the first.  This will only degrade our profession, and cause public confusion and mistrust.  At the end of the day, we will only do a diservice to the public we are trying to serve.
