Given that the politicians currently in power in our national government do not believe in climate change caused by human activity, and are pursuing policies that undermine the move from fossil fuel to clean renewable sources of energy, it is up to the states to provide leadership.  The science is clear and many citizens desperately want to see our government agencies take meaningful steps to address climate change.  The effects are happening now, with more and more severe droughts, fires, storms, melting glaciers and sea level rise.  The need for states, localities and individuals to respond constructively is urgent.  Virginia can and should be a leader in instituting policies for a more sustainable future.  My neighborhood is full of young children, and I fear to think of what their adulthood will be like if we don't adopt a sustainable energy plan now.
