Virginia Energy Plan

It is time to plan for the future.

-Don't invest in future stranded assets like pipelines instead proceed with offshore wind turbines.

-Ensure energy efficiency in all State property improvements and install solar on roofs wherever feasible.

-Mandate all new State buildings have LEED certificaion including Solar on roofs and electric vehicle recharging capacity.

-Encourage coal mine phase out and invest in retraining programs for miners.

-Periodically update building codes to maximize energy efficiency and eventually include solar on roofs.

I am particularly disappointed that the new Dept of Transportation building in Saluda, Middlesex Co. does not have Solar Panels or electric recharging capability; DoT has used solar panels for many years to power isolated installations along our highways. Why the omission of these fiscally sound options? When will it be remedied?

I look forward to the new Energy Plan for Virginia and the incorporation of citizens' comments and suggestions. Future legislation needs to take more than Dominion's position into account.

Thank you,

Maureen Fairbrother M.D.
