Law enforcement personnel cannot possibly patrol all state lands where citizens are out and about enjoying the beautiful scenery and historical sites.  Denying private citizens the right to carry weapons to defend themselves gives the green light to thugs that have no regard for our lives or legal system.  Possession/use of personal firearms by properly trained citizens has prevented many more crimes and deaths than there have been resulting from accidental shootings.  Also, personal firearms are sometimes necessary to ward off dangerous animals, or to obtain food during survival situations.
