L'Arche

It is vitally important that you let L'Arche of Greater Washington, DC, maintain its community model. Please do not disrupt the wonderful and effective way people with disabilities create a safe and caring home by including those who assist them into a common house. I have known several of the residents who live in the South Arlington homes that are part of L'Arche Greater Washington, DC, and they are confident and productive citizens of Arlington. The L'Arche model of community living for more than fifty years and has been replicated in more than 35 countries. This is a progressive model that works. It would not be wise to redefine "group home" for the licensing of facilities such as L'Arche. Indeed, the whole point of the L'Arche model is that their community is NOT a facility. What would you rather live in, a caring home-based community, or a facility? Please do not discriminate against communities of faith that have made it possible for those who are called to assist others with disabilities to share a home together.
