Protect L'Arche--family-like homes from proposed new group home requirements

I am an Assistant/Direct Support Professional with L'Arche Greater Washington, D.C. that has homes that would be adversely affected in Arlington, Virginia. My spouse and I moved here to live in a L'Arche home with people with intellectual disabilities two years ago and my life has been transformed. L'Arche is an intentional community where people with and without intellectual disabilities learn that we need each other to know what it means to be human. We do this through many ways, centered around living together in family-like homes. Do not continue to oppress people with disabilities who are welcomers to living a different way of life, where they are no longer just patients/clients to be provided services, but they are seen as gifts to a community. My helping someone with daily life tasks like bathing or eating dinner together is a matter of my religious beliefs in so far as each task is a sacramental one, where I believe God is made known to me. I ask that L’Arche, specifically, and any other unique community which seeks to experience mutually transformative relationships, to be excluded from the proposed new group home requirements.
