For the last 12 years, I have chosen to be part of an intentional Community called L’Arche.  While some Intentional Communities choose a collective mission of being agricultural, or artistic, or socially activists, L’Arche chooses to share life and friendships with adults who have intellectual disabilities. We have no staff, not do we have clients. We have people with different gifts and abilities living together to discover what it truly means to be compassionate and human.  L’Arche could not exist as an Intentional Community without this combination of persons.  Therefore, I ask that L’Arche, specifically, and any other organization which is similar to L’Arche to be excluded from the proposed group home requirements.
