OPPOSE

I oppose this amendment. It may not seem like a big deal to place an IV catheter to some, but it is still an invasive procedure that could result in tissue trauma and phlebitis. By allowing unlicensed personnel to place IV catheters, it is not elevating the licensed veterinary technician profession, it cheapens it. The only time this is permissible are for technician students. We have gone to school for multiple years, and studied countless hours to pass the VTNE to be licensed. Things like this cheapen the profession, where duties usually performed by LVTs are being performed by unlicensed assistants at a cheaper cost. Why pay the LVTs when employers can have unlicensed assistants perform tasks at a lower cost? Primary care vets may not even employ an LVT because they may not pay them livable wages. This is why many flock to specialty and emergency practice. Please keep IV catheter placement to the LVTs to perform.
