Strongly Support

I strongly support the amendment as long as the individual has been properly trained.  As someone who has inserted hundreds of peripheral IV catheters over the years in humans, I believe it is a skill that can be learned by someone who is not licensed.  I have worked with several unlicensed “assistants” at several locations, that were masters with IV cath placements.

So many of the vet practices may have only one vet and multiple technicians (licensed or unlicensed).  If the vet is working with another patient or unavailable and I came in with one of my cats that required IV cath insertion for life-saving fluids, etc., I would be so grateful that a properly trained person was available to do this.

So much of Virginia is rural and I am sure that many of the small, rural practices don’t even have an LVT, in which case a properly trained technician would be a blessing.
