Lets Compromise

We need to look at the not only the shortage of LVTs, but the shortage of LVTS and Veterinarians that have the talent to place an IV catheter.  There are fewer than you may realize.

I have been running animal hospitals for 20 years.  I am confident in this statement - IV catheter placement is a learned skill that requires dexterity, talent and skill.  Okay, there is a shortage of LVTs.  But in addition to this, there is a shortage of veterinarians and LVTs with dexterity, talent and skill.  I have employed several non-licensed staff that are far better at IV catheter placement than anyone else in the practice, including the head veterinarian.  Just because you have taken the class that teached you how to put one in and properly place - it doesn't give you the talent to it well.

How about we meet in the middle?  Lets create a quick certification course that allows non-licensed staff to appear at an inexpensive half day course that allows them to learn IV catheter placement according to the Board's liking and then prove they can safely and adequately place and remove IV catheters.   Would that be a solution that the opposers would agree to?
