LVTs are already underpaid and undervalued in practice. What do they need to go to school for if so much of their job can be done by unsupervised laypersons? I would rather know a catheter has been placed by someone qualified to do it. Already in referral practice we see far too many catheters that are poorly placed or clearly inappropriate and this will become worse if unsupervised laypeople are allowed to perform this important task.
