Certainly not every employee in a Veterinary hospital is qualified to put in an iv catheter, but there are bright, enthusiastic team members that can be trained how to do this. This makes them even more valuable employees, gives them a boost in their self esteem, and frees up the LVTs to do other things. Extremely debilitated or critical patients will still get their catheters placed by the LVTs, most likely, but the more routine pre-op catheters can be placed by well trained assistants.
