IV catheter placement

It is my opinion and preference that trained assistants are allowed to place IV catheters in canine and feline patients. I work in a hospital without a technician due to a lack of availability in Northern Virginia. I do not feel I should be the only person available for IV catheter placement in an emergency situation when I am the only doctor on staff. This is putting our patients in danger and decreasing the care we can offer a pet.
