I am not in favor of allowing unlicensed personnel to insert IV catheters.

I feel as though this is a temporary fix for a long-term ongoing problem. Until we respect ourselves enough to charge appropriately, pay a more desirable wage and take care of our staff, there will always be a shortage of licensed personnel to work at our side. I feel this way not only as a licensed technician of 14 years, but also as a current practice owner of five years. Our efforts should be focused on the public's perception and value rather than trying to do the best we can with what we have. The shortage is not due to a lack of interest or compassion, these people are underpaid, burned out and under appreciated. Why would someone pay to go to school and learn something when they can get paid for on-the-job training? This legislature will simply promote this mentality.
