Training and skill development need to be maintained thru the validating licensing programs. It is essential to the health and welfare of the animals that properly trained (and practiced) Licensed personnel attend to the medical care needs of the patients. Unlicensed personnel should NOT be allowed to place IV Caths.
We need to elevate our highly skilled and trained Licensed Veterinary Technicians in the eyes of the practice and the community. Education is essential (along with hands-on training) to protect and elevate the care of animals. While IV cath placement is not rocket science -- many iatrogenic conditions and patient stress may be avoided with proper care and placement.
Our LVT/RVT/CVT standards are "universally" recognized - let's grow our profession UP-- not lessen its significance by allowing technical skill and proper training to become obsolete.
