After a 38 year career in municipal law enforcment I can report that I have never had to arrest a holder of a concealed carry permit for a firearms related offense. I can see no compelling reason to restrict the carrying of a lawfully possessed firearm within a state forest. Licensees are screened, trained and then licensed in order to insure the safety of the public. What will a restriction on state forests accomplish? Will these lawfully licensed individuals suddenly become criminals or dangers to the public just because they have entered the woodlands? These very same permit holders will then leave the forest, return to their communities and procede to carry their lawfull firearms again. I can see no difference whether the firearm is carried on the pavemnet of a busy city or in the quiet woodlands of a state forest.
I strongly urge the decision makers to reject the irrational objections of those who see danger in the mere possesion of a firearm and ask that they support the lawful carrying if firearms by licensed persons within the State forests.
