Physical Therapists wanting to do Acupuncture and call it something else???

Towhom it May Concern:

I have been involved with acupuncture since 1988 and Chinese martial arts officially since 1969. As a practicing acupuncturist, I have had a fair amount of experience as to what certain other modalitys can and can't do with traumatic injuries. I have several friends/patients who are training to become physical therapists or physical therapy assistants and they are being told that they will "eventually become acupuncturists".. Apparently there is a national movement to get physical therapists to become acupuncturists -  and it is being hidden behind the vague term Dry Needling.

The consideration of a PT doing competent acupuncture is , at best, iffy. The Oriental Theory and understanding is absent, whether you call it Dry Needling or Boiled Turnips. Perhaps their profession might be better served by pursuing more skill/knowlege in the human musculuature?? The majority of my patients who seek out acupuncture with me are often disappointed/disgusted with their physical therapy treatment and results.

I strongly suggest you save Virginia citizens from a  BAD BILL - and vote against it.

Sincerely,

Tim Sheehan
