YES - to dry needling

Bottom line up front: I am extremely happy and satisfied with my service. My PT provider is extremely knowledgeable in his work and understanding of the muscular and skeletal systems. I would not feel comfortable having a service like dry needling by someone who has not attended medical or physical therapy school.

I began having elbow and shoulder pain in the summer of 2017. The pain was great enough that I drastically altered my exercise habits as well as every day movements. For example, I struggled to lift a 32 oz water bottle to my mouth for a drink. My doctor diagnosed tendonitis and recommended I see a physical therapist. I started physical therapy twice a week and preformed several exercises at home too. After about six weeks I was seeing some progress, but tendonitis is not something that improves quickly. After two months my PT recommended dry needling with stimulation. I researched this method and decided I was very comfortable with trying this therapy. Knowing that my physical therapist attend four years of undergraduate study followed by three years of intense physical therapy training that provides them with an extreme knowledge of the skeleton and muscular systems, not to mention the specific follow-on training required for dry needling, I was completely comfortable with having my physical therapist perform this therapy.

I had an immediate positive reaction with my first session of dry needling. The continuous ache I’d had for several months was gone. My shoulder and elbow felt immediate relief. Soon after, I was able to lessen my regular PT sessions to once a week, then once every other week. I have had a couple more dry needling sessions in that time as well. I think my last session of PT will be in the next week or two as my daily pain went from constant to very rare.
