I work with several therapists who practice DN and have experienced it myself.  There is no attempt to mask this as accupuncture or to extoll benefits like accupuncture.  The goals and methods are just completely different.  I think to it should be recognized that many of these comments seem to ignore the fact that PT's are using Trigger Point Dry Needling not just as the sole thing we use to treat our patients but in conjuction with the other components of therapeutic exercise, manual therapy, movement impairment correction, and neuro re-education that PT's provide to fully treat our patients.

PT's receive significant entry level education and then more advanced training in regards to perform Trigger Point Dry Needling as to not pose a safety risk to patients.

I believe 18VAC112-20-121. Practice of dry needling sufficiently covers the education, training, and safety components necessary to allow PT's to practice Trigger Point Dry Needling without posing a safety risk to the public.
